Move Proposal
Edit
Since this wasn't done correctly the first time, and wasn't moved to the correct place, this has been opened. Cortez's proper name is Steven and therefore, the article should be moved to that. Lancer1289 19:56, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
- Support move. Should his rank be included, too? Trandra 20:00, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
- No as we don't do that for number of characters. A redirect already exists for the rank. Lancer1289 20:01, March 6, 2012 (UTC)
- I support the move. Incomplete names and placeholders need to go as soon as the real names are revealed. --AnAutisticTeen 15:09, March 7, 2012 (UTC)
- I support the move, too. Derpherpherp 15:52, March 8, 2012 (UTC)
Just a quick update, probably my bad with a few things, but it has been changed from Steven to Esteban, as that is his real name. Strange, I swear I remember Steven from somewhere... Lancer1289 07:22, March 9, 2012 (UTC)
- Fairly certain it's his late husband, he refers to Cortez as Steve or Steven. Whereas Vegas calls him Esteban. Derpherpherp 09:19, March 9, 2012 (UTC)
- Esteban is Spanish for Steven, so from a certain perspective, both are correct, though I think in these circumstances, the Anglicized variation is more informal. Like Pyotr/Peter in Russian. --Darth Something 16:01, March 9, 2012 (UTC)
- Esteban is the nickname given by James for STEVEN Cortez, Esteban is JUST a nickname.
- Ok then, it's back to Steven. Lancer1289 01:30, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

Dialogue in me3 about his husband
Edit
Is this worth of including (or atleast mentioning) on this page? I feel like it's a pretty progressive thing to do - putting an openly gay character in a videogame. +1 to bioware. 74.89.241.56 23:07, March 7, 2012 (UTC)
- No becuase it is already mentioned. We don't need dialogue. Lancer1289 23:11, March 7, 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, wow I just read that. I'm in facepalm mode. 74.89.241.56 09:28, March 8, 2012 (UTC)
"Fate"
Edit
I'm pretty sure I don't remember Cortez dying in my playthrough. His shuttle took a hit after dropping me off, but he managed to pull it out and land safely, thanking me for giving him something to live for again (no, I didn't romance him). I was able to contact him via the Comm Tech in the base afterward. Is he killed at some point after this, or is it safe to remove/alter the line saying he dies? FFXI-Ironside 04:52, March 9, 2012 (UTC)
He died right after landing in my game. After you land on earth, once you get the first breathing room and you go up a few ledges. He says theres some airborne hostiles and hes going to take care of them. He gets shot down. I had James with me and he was raging after that.

I can confirm that Cortez can die. I've had him both die and survive in my playtroughs. It's either related to EMS or the time you take to get upstairs to get the heavy weapon.
Death of husband. Should be added?
this only depends on wether or not you talked enough with him or not. See it as him being a loyal teammember, if he's loyal he'll survive, otherwise he won't Horakoeri, Ruler of stuff and Cataclyst of your Doom 22:02, April 2, 2012 (UTC)
Steve or Steven
Edit
Sorry to be a bother but there's no evidence of lieutenant Cortez's name being Steven, he presents himself as Steve to the Commander and even in the credits he's listed as Lieutenant Steve Cortez. I'd like to propose changing the name to Steve in light of this. (Or I can try to edit it myself, I just have no experience in this.)--TriciaM 16:42, April 1, 2012 (UTC)
- I support changing it to Steve. He's never called Steven at any point in the game, in fact I'm pretty sure that's Hackett's first name. Mr. Mittens 17:09, April 1, 2012 (UTC)
- I don't ever recall him being called Steven Cortez either. Doing a search on Google result in almost nothing (except this page). Was this an unintentional mistake? — Teugene (Talk) 17:21, April 1, 2012 (UTC)
- Most likely. I'll do some looking around myself. If it turns out that Cortez's first name is given as "Steve" and never "Steven", then the article could be moved immediately since it would be correcting an oversight. -- Commdor (Talk) 17:36, April 1, 2012 (UTC)
- I've gone through every single cutscene involving Cortez, and he's only ever called "Steve". Can we move it correctly this time? Mr. Mittens 20:58, April 2, 2012 (UTC)

Extended Cut reveals his name to be Steven
Edit
In the Extended Cut, should Steve die in the shuttle due to not-being-talked-to-enough syndrome, his name appears on the memorial wall as "Steven Cortez". Considering that his name appears as "Steve" in the War Assets menu, and that the memorial wall is not always accurate (Jacqueline Nought), I thought I should put this up. Thoughts?
