Jenkins' DeathEdit

I am putting a note here for future reference on a change I made before logging in. Feel free to say I didn't do it, I have not the time to argue that. In Jenkins' death scene, he does actually receive a command from Shepard to go ahead to scout. It is a small movement near the left side of their helmet: they point. Two fingers, thumb in. It is an actually military command where silence and lack of movement are key. Used often in wars, such as the Vietnam war, by American Troops. IN this manner, his name may be a reference to the famed Leeroy Jenkins, but his death is not necessarily so.

There is much I could add about how Jenkins is a soldier, and would be trained to resist such urges to just run off without receiving a command, but that would be another waste of my time.OmegaVestor 02:46, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

While I appreciate that he was given the command to move forward, the 'Jenkins' skit probably refers to the manner of how he moved forward to point rather carelessly, walking straight out into the open. Jenkins vs. WoWEdit

I have a couple of questions:

Does anyone have a verified source stating his middle name is 'Leeroy'? I have ony ever seen it written as Richard L. Jenkins within the game.

Does anyone have a quotable source stating his name is a play on Leeroy Jenkins? While I don't doubt it's probably true - it's the sort of thing that game designers love doing - it'd be worth seeing if we can find a reference. I **think** it was hinted at in one of the PAX2007 videos by an employee of Bioware demoing the early part of the game on the 360. Maybe if we can find and link to the video, maybe with a time index would that suffice?

Fact tag Edit

There is already a link to Leeroy Jenkins' Wikipedia page which comments that he appears in other media, but I've added a link to tvtropes.org so we get a list. Incidentally, it's not actually speculation to state that Leeroy Jenkins has been referenced in other games, such as Halo (which was originally mentioned and later removed). --Tullis 12:37, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Amazing, Halo referencing Leeroy Jenkins when Halo came out 3 years before WoW. Incredible foresight on Bungie's part! Honestly, is there a source for Richard Jenkins being a reference to Leeroy? I can see it as possible, but a confirmation would be lovely. I'd recommend that someone stroll over to the forums and ask someone from Bioware to confirm this reference. Spectre Edit

Jenkins has the Spectre tag on his beret.

Think he's really a Spectre?

No, because that isn't the "Spectre tag", it's an Alliance insignia. He is an Alliance soldier, after all. Please compare the Systems Alliance and Spectre insignia. SpartHawg948 06:27, December 20, 2009 (UTC)

If the removal of the reference to the Allience Military Database is unneeded then I don't understand the need for the trivia at dealing with specter gear as well?

Because maybe it's an Alliance system, so why shouldn't have the Alliance insignia? The Spectre trivia is very valid because compare the Systems Alliance insignia with the Spectre - Master Gear insignia. They are very close with just a few minor differences. There is no reason to keep the Alliance Database one because it is again an Alliance System so it is redundant. The insignia of the organization that is displayed in the background while using that system, that's never been done before. Your trivia wasn't valid in September, and it still isn't now. (edit conflict) Neither do I, actually (referencing the previous anonymous post). If the image on the Spectre - Master Gear page is any indicator, the logo on Jenkins' beret is not the same as the Spectre Master Gear symbol. And, once that is removed, pointing out that Jenkins (an Alliance marine) has the same insignia on his beret as the Alliance Military Personnel Database uses ceases to be anything approaching trivia, and becomes a statement of the obvious. Starting character death plot device of BioWare Edit

So how is that unneed to state this? Or is it any different than mentioning this StarTrek info?

Not talking about the issue itself here, I can say that the wording was confusing, at best. Let's look at it here: "The scripted death scene early in the game makes Jenkins the Mass Effect equivalent of a popluar BioWare plot device. Having a starting party member die in th first mission of the game." Now, take just the first line. "The scripted death scene early in the game makes Jenkins the Mass Effect equivalent of a popluar BioWare plot device." Spelling issue aside, it's pretty darn confusing. Jenkins is the Mass Effect equivalent of a popular BioWare plot device? But isn't Mass Effect a BioWare game? In which case, wouldn't Jenkins be an example of said plot device? Now, looking at the entirety of the quoted text, why the period? Seems a comma would be more appropriate, as there is no grammatical reason to separate it into two sentences.

The rest of it seems more subjective to me, but I'd be inclined to leave it out, as only three examples (Jenkins, Wilson, and Trask) hardly seems like a popular plot device. I don't recall, for example, any such early death in Jade Empire. It's more a common practice in video games in general than one limited to BioWare, and as such, I fail to see how it would be trivia. Removed Trivia stating that Jenkins is the only Alliance Marine seen wearing a Beret, in recent Mass Effect 3 footage, there is an Alliance Marine wearing a beret as well.

The reference to that meme was never cited or sourced and other discussions on the wiki never mentioned any confirmation from the devs or writers of the Mass Effect series.

Name Reference Edit

Until a source is presented, with a dev coming out quite clearly and saying that Jenkins is a reference to the WoW character, any further references to this will be removed on site with or without an edit summary. If anyone persists in adding the trivia, then they will suffer the consequences of edit warring. This is not trivia without a source and I'm sick of seeing users remove it. ME came out 2007, leeroy jenkins was oldmeme as early as 2005. a quick youtube search even turns up a vid from 2006. the issue here is not -that-, it's just that this wiki requires a properly sourced mass effect dev who flat out states that he's a homage to leeroy. nothing more, nothing less. And just to point out, that it doesn't matter "how many people think" it is, we don't decide trivia here based on popular opinion. If we did, we would have trivia sections longer than articles. Trivia has to meet the MoS, and this doesn't come close without devconfirmation. Get it, or stop adding it. Didn't I already say this in a comment above?
