Mr. Thax

Well well, I submit a problem encountered during edits. So well, (@temp78) I'm aware of krogan naming conventions. As reminder for others the krogans are named that way : CLAN + NICKNAME (ex: Urdnot Wrek, Weyrloc Guld,...)

Now the Thax issue :

  • Before the Profiles in Courage Story : ME2 (Illium: The Justicar: Stolen Goods Found) refered him as Mr. Thax. (mr. ? mmmh is this his nickname or clan name... Hard to say)
  • During the profile in Courage,
    • the characters (N7 squad) also refered him as Thax (seems to be his nickname but hard to say)
    • Blog [1] says Thax Vorak. Which clearly point that Thax is his clan name.
    • HOWEVER, at the end of the blog, Bioware have a question for his contest : QUESTION: What is Mr. Thax’s clan name, and what is the name of the asari who handled Thax’s shipping transactions?

We have then a serious problem... Two possibilities to answer :

  1. The writers made a mistake in the blog by saying Thax Vorak instead of Vorak Thax ;
  2. Bioware is a funny tricker and Mr. Thax's clan name is ... Thax.

I have to say that in the beginning I thought that the blogers made a mistake (that's why I putted Vorak as the clan name) but now that I'm thinking about it, maybe that bioware is a good tricker. We should ask a winner to know what is the answer of the question to be sure.

As we wait, I would stick to Thax as clan name because it was once written like that but that's far from certain ;) --DeldiRe (talk) 15:38, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

Aurelius101 (talk) 15:49, September 26, 2013 (UTC)I believe this post has nothing to do with bioware, they would never do anything without the owners permission, but i don`t know the person who wrote this post.Aurelius101 (talk) 15:49, September 26, 2013 (UTC) AureliusAurelius101 (talk) 15:49, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

The in-game "Mr. Thax" should be enough to convey the property of "Thax" as a collective name (ie. clan name) rather than an individual name. "Thax Vorak" in the blog post (published by BioWare, btw) supports this. Even if he's occasionally called "Thax" by some, I don't see how that would be particularly odd, since calling someone by their family name is only impractical if there are others around with the same name. In any event, I'd say
game > blog > silly competition question > Profiles in Courage tweets,
so I think it's pretty clear "Thax" is the clan name, not "Vorak." Elseweyr (talk) 16:34, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

Broodbrother

Should we add this to culture? I think it's either the krogan word for biological brother or half-brother.--Mike Gilbert 19:16, January 6, 2014 (UTC)

Unsourced height and weight information

There seems to be no source for the height and weight information added to the Biology section over four years ago. One-ton krogan being implausible per se, it also contradicts the information in Mass Effect: Revelation: [Skarr] was easily the most impressive krogan Edan had ever seen. At two and a half meters tall and nearly two hundred kilograms, he was large even by the standards of his reptilian species, but not enormous.

Just to provide a bit of context, the editor who added this information made similar edits to multiple race articles, all of which were removed because of the lack of a source. Given that the numbers appear to be mere estimations that don't agree with what official information we have, they should be changed. Elseweyr talkstalk April 16, 2014, 08:21:46 (UTC)

ingame krogan (excepting grunt) are at least a human head taller than shepard. their humps are counted in the measurement since it's the highest point on their bodies. and we do have examples of indisputably gigantic krogan: skarr himself at over 8 feet, the guys at paragon lol (which incidentally also gave us giant collectors...), and X1 from ME:I (modified, but still krogan). around 7 feet may not be that far off the mark considering the eyeball measurements and given skarr's apparently "just above-average" height.
the "ton" in armor.. huh. quick search across the ingame texts gives me irrelevant results. source required for that in the future so at least i can run an independent verification. There's always handwaving about "well their armor is powered and very dense" or whatever, but handwaving is usually to attempt to justify something implausible that's canon, rather than something apparently unsourced. As far as height - most 3D environments including the various versions of the Unreal Engine that the ME games run in are calibrated in meters, for the very reason that it makes it easier for developers to explicitly calibrate the realism and continuity of their world. So to the extent that height information can be judged from the game world/camera, that reflects a number intentionally typed by a developer and thus seems fairly strongly canon to me. Late, but Cortez says something about Wrex or Wreav taking over the shuttle on Sur'Kesh and mentions "800 pound Krogan" but I don't remember the exact line. And he may have just been throwing out a random guess about their weight. Great Mara (talk) 03:53, August 16, 2014 (UTC)
I don't know about the canon status of Cerberus Daily News, but the one entry in Cerberus Daily News - March 2010 puts one Krogan at 150 kilograms (330.7 pounds). In the section "Galactic Combat Sports League Alters Heavyweight Title Card After Illness". Great Mara (talk) 09:35, August 25, 2014 (UTC)
CDN is canon. there are now 3 valid datapoints for weight: revelation, CDN, and even steeeve's hyperbole as it's clearly stated in game (should be taken with a grain of salt, of course). 2 1/2 canon mentions vs one editor's unsourced guess obviously wins this round. Quash clan

Following the french wiki, the two krogans from Citadel: Krogan Sushi are members of Clan Quash, does anyone have more info about it? They also have their proper page with some infos. I could translate it if it's relevant.--DeldiRe (talk) 13:18, February 26, 2015 (UTC)
