Mass Effect 2[]

So I included mentions of Haestrom/Dholen and Gianna Parasini. Were there any other explicit references to dark energy in Mass Effect 2, aside from the usual biotics, mass effect drives, and eezo? I remember scans of another solar system revealing that its star was aging prematurely, but nothing to connect it to dark energy per se. -- Delphinus 10:43, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

Kal Reager mentions it during the quest about Tali's Treason Trial. Wasn't mentioned anywhere else, but the very fact that they mentioned it thrice, with one of the instances being an important recruitment mission....I can bet that in ME3's plot dark energy has some serious implication....maybe they'll use it as a weapon or something against the Reaper fleet.

  • Or maybe something worse. Maybe it's related to the fact that the Reapers are late this time around. Maybe they have to...come use it up so that it doesn't destroy the galaxy outright. Just some wild speculation. 76.126.41.22 23:09, April 17, 2010 (UTC)
  • Considering dark energy is used by the mass relays, I'm wondering if the Dholen situation is connected with the mass relays. More exactly, I'm thinking it has something to do with the reapers. It is in the Far Rim, on the edge of the galaxy. The reapers could be relatively close to this cluster. I'm wondering if the reapers did something to Dholen to cause the build up of dark energy. Because of the dark energy, its radiation and heat are increasing. So, I'm wondering if the star is a power source aimed to meet the reapers' needs. If the Citadel is a mass relay that the reapers race through at the beginning of the cycle, then there must be another relay the reapers start at. Maybe Dholen is supposed to power this other relay. • I wouldnt be suprised if in Mass Effect 3 it turns out that the constant use of biotics and mass effect drives throughout time is causing a massive build up of dark energy and it would destroy the galaxy and that the Reapers are actually helping save most life by desroying all intellegint life in the galaxy preventing the Dark Energy build up from getting so great it starts blowing up stars. I sincerely hope not. Those high and mighty, ultra-preachy stories like that are getting a bit overplayed, don't you think?I'd rather see something fresh and original than a repeat of a theme that has been used a few too many times already. Besides, it doesn't seem like something that trite would mesh with the plots of the previous two games, especially not ME2, what with the selective targeting of one race and one race only to construct a new Reaper. Regardless, I really hope they don't go down the entirely too-beaten path of 'let's use this to send a veiled political message about the environment'. I play these games for fun, not to be preached at. That would be one of the few things they could do to make me lose all respect for the series. SpartHawg948 20:23, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. James Cameron's Pocahontas Avatar would have been far more enjoyable for me if it didn't beat me over the head with the "military big stupid bad guys, technology bad!" message. If Mass Effect takes that route, I wouldn't be suprised, but I'd certainly be disappointed. I do like the idea that Reapers aren't doing this culling thing just to be evil though. I like that their harvesting does serve a purpose, though I do hope it's not as trite as "keeping the galaxy working because you're too stupid to know you're breaking it." Indeed. I liked it in the first game when Sovereign told Shepard that the Reapers purpose was beyond the ability of organics to comprehend, or something along those lines. Personally, I'd be fine with their true intentions staying a mystery. It's kind of more fun that way. Defeating a deadly enemy without really knowing why they came in the first place. SpartHawg948 20:43, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
Hm, indeed if their intentions remain a mystery, it would be a route that has been taken before, but unlike the higher purpose one, the mystery one hasn't been outdone. However if something is revealed about their intentions, jsut enough that it leaves closure but leaves the mystery intact. That would be a good ending becuase it hasn't been overdone. Well at least I don't think it has been. Lancer1289 20:48, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
As cool as it would be, it'd be a total letdown not to be able to include their motivations in the wiki. :P PhoenixBlue 20:52, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

Veetor mentions it when you meet him. Can't remember the exact context, but I believe it was in relation to Collector technology. JakePT 07:19, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

Yup, just realised it. It had been bugging me because I was sure I'd heard it some place else other than what were listed. Veetor mentions it on Freedom's Progress when you ask him to tell you about the attack. He says something along the lines of,"Collector...Dark Energy...Swarms....". Anyway, the Reapers killing life to save th galaxy reminds me of a Galactus story....don't remember it exactly but it turned out (after they'd finally managed to defeat Galactus) that he'd been channeling all the energy he absorbed from the planets to keep a demon or something of that sort imprisoned.....IP no. 59.95.169.10 18:29, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

I love how this is never mentioned again after ME2. =/

Please take all this to the forums. Speculation is not allowed on talk pages.--Pigachu 15:53, March 29, 2012 (UTC)

It's not really speculation, it was just in the script at some point. It would be nice to have for trivia, but you guys are pretty much nazis about even having things for trivia.

Mass Effect 3[]

There's something of a throwaway reference to dark energy in a dissertation paper written by Conrad Verner if you help him out. Somehow it helps with the Crucible. Shouldn't that be included in the page itself? --Reikson 14:45, June 10, 2012 (UTC)
