Siphoning Credits Edit

I have a question about it siphoning the credits. Does that actually do anything, or is it just the timer? Do you get more credits if you disarm it quicker? -DarkJeff 04:07, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I believe so. --Tullis 11:51, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
According to the official guide you do.
You apparently can gain credits if you do it quickly, but not if you do it slowly. The first time I did it I almost ran out of time and gained no credits. On several attempts, I beat it more quickly and gained 720 credits every time.

trivia, it says rapers, someone wnat to fix.

News story trivia Edit

The story about the citadel technicians finding some unknown computer system that suffered overload has anything to do with this assignment. I would of agreed that it might be related to this article if the news could only have been heard after completing the assignment - deducing that this is a bug because it doesn't conform to the theory without any confirmation from a reliable source is speculation. --silverstrike 18:12, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

Well I do consider that valid because while you can hear it before, usually later in the game, and always (in my experience), after you return to the Citadel the second or third time. It does mention a computer system on the Presidium, and it does fall into the news system of reporting things like that after assignments are completed. There are many other examples of this, and even others that report before the assignment has been completed. I've heard reports about assignments, completion news reports, then looking at my journal, I see that I haven't completed it yet. Lancer1289 18:18, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
There's a difference between not finishing an assignment and not even starting one (at least they appear in your journal). Speaking from my own experience, this is the only assignment that can be heard before completion (if the two are indeed related). The real question is: do we allow speculations? Because we can start a long discussion and deliberate the point with many examples for how and when this news story appear and its relevance to the assignment - but I doubt any of us will be certain about this. You speculate that the assignment and news story are related and I speculate that they don't - so do we or don't we allow speculations? --silverstrike 18:30, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
I think there is enough here to justify it in this case, given the content of the assignment and the content of the story. Considering that generally the story is heard after, as from my expierence, and looking over other walkthoughs, videos, and other sources (other players, forums, etc), this assignment is usually completed on the first visit unless going for Liara's Achievement. The rest of them are heard after the assignment, although I did mention a few times where I have gotten the stories before I completed the assignment, but some are hard to dispute. Lancer1289 18:42, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
Citadel staff encountered a computer that its purpose was unknown - not really unique seeing as no one knows half of the operations that the Citadel/Keepers perform. The Keepers themselves could of sabotaged the computer as part of their disobedience, it could be another tidbit that was purposely inserted to show that no race has any idea what is the real purpose of the citadel, and it could be the result of this assignment. My point is that you can link those two together, but that doesn't necessarily means that the story is based on the assignment. --silverstrike 18:55, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
However I do have to bring in the content of the various stories and there are more general stories, but those are vague and not related to actions the player can take. An example is the salarian/hanar thing with the dig site. While assignment related ones are very specific, relate to actions a player can take, an example is the story relating to UNC: Missing Survey Team, or . The story for this assignment mentions an overload, which is what happens when disabling the AI; a computer with an unknown purpose, no one knew it was an AI, and it only says so after you discover it; a computer system on the Presidium, which is where the assignment concludes; and that C-Sec was investigating possible vandalism or misuse of government property, which is exactly what happened witht he thief and the AI. I believe there are more than enough information between the story and the assignment to draw a direct relation like other assignment related news stories. Lancer1289 19:15, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
Interesting, my husband and I first thought that the news story referred to the attempt to activate the Citadel as a mass relay, which didn't work due to the protheans' actions millennia ago. Anyway, if people have heard the story before overloading the computer, it's probably not intended to refer to this Assignment. --Morgan-wolf 06:21, April 15, 2011 (UTC)

Possible bug Edit

I've never seen this before. Anywhere. Lancer1289 19:55, January 15, 2012 (UTC)
And one user is not enough to allow a bug in, screenshot or no. An absolute minimum of three confirmed cases has become the standard. Lancer1289 20:03, January 15, 2012 (UTC)
Seriously what is with the attitude? I explain what has to be done to allow a bug in and you throw it back in my face. Standards are standards and we cannot make an exception for you. The same rules apply to anyone on the site. Lancer1289 20:07, January 15, 2012 (UTC)

'Tech-savvy' squadmate notices the machine Edit

What if you've got some combination of Liara, Wrex, or Ashley? The ones who have no tech abilities at all?

liara is tech + biotic in 1. try again. What the hell happened to your name? And no, she's not. Each of the squadmates in ME1 is a unique combination of the three core talents

Ashley - combat only Kaidan - biotic/tech Wrex - biotic/combat Tali - tech only Garrus - tech/combat Liara - biotic only

Three of them have no tech abilities at all.

Liara has electronics in ME1, which is a tech talent. And actually, I just checked and apparently first aid is a tech talent as well. Every squadmate except Wrex has first aid, so presumably it's impossible to have a squad with no "tech-savvy" squadmate.ElRay0707 (talk) 02:20, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

Liara_T'Soni#Talents. if you don't count liara's electronics as tech then she ain't. as noted above by another user before i got to post this. then again technically speaking she -is- the one who has the pure blue bar in the squad strengths comparison.

as to the question itself, i think everyone has lines there but prioritized in order of who is most appropriate to speak in the matter. in this case, tech guys first. try experimenting wrex + ash, i'm guessing wrex speaks first (references to his gambling). haven't checked in a very long while and i still don't have ME reinstalled so i can be fuzzy about this. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 02:25, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

I just completed it with Kaidan and Wrex, and obviously Kaidan has tech, so he spoke. Next playthrough I'll try Ashley and Wrex (even though that one needs to be mostly Garrus and Liara to get the squadmate trophies for them).

I ended up doing Garrus/Liara, and to my surprise Liara did the talking, even though Garrus is, by the squad screens, tech/combat. It's probably some sort of continuum like who will tell you to save the council vs. kill it based on who else is with you.

So now on this playthrough I'm doing every duo to see who speaks (yep, I sure do have a lot of free time on my hands. Thanks for pointing it out). Results:

  • Ashley/Kaidan - Kaidan speaks
  • Ashley/Liara - Liara speaks
  • Ashley/Wrex - Ashley speaks
  • Ashley/Garrus - Ashley speaks
  • Ashley/Tali - Ashley speaks, weirdly enough
  • Kaidan/Liara - Liara speaks
  • Kaidan/Wrex - Kaidan speaks
  • Kaidan/Garrus - Kaidan speaks
  • Kaidan/Tali - Kaidan speaks
  • Liara/Wrex - Liara speaks
  • Liara/Garrus - Liara speaks
  • Liara/Tali - Liara speaks. It's very weird that Tali is mum. Isn't she the most 'tech savvy' of all?
  • Wrex/Garrus - Garrus speaks.
  • Wrex/Tali - Tali finally speaks.
  • Garrus/Tali - Garrus speaks.

So Wrex never speaks, and Liara always does. The order seems to be:

Liara-Kaidan-Ashley-Garrus-Tali-Wrex.

Not exactly what I was expecting. What makes Liara and Ashley more tech savvy than Garrus and especially Tali?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Youmademesignup (talk · contr).

nice, someone with lots of time to spare for the classics. anyway, let's count.

  • 5 liara
  • 4 kaidan
  • 3 ash
  • 2 garrus
  • 1 tali
  • 0 wrex

so what brings about this odd combination of results? one of two things. 1) we'll have to be delving a bit into character psyches (bordering on speculation) if we are to answer the nagging question why some characters speak first more than others. 2) writers didn't really spend much time on this and simply assigned priority values on the fly based on practicality, expedience and established char traits (it's a freakin sidequest). to take a guess at the first scenario using the patterns derived:

  • liara -is- brainy enough to recognize such things
  • so is kaidan
  • ash is a party girl compared to the three she's partnered with
  • garrus has more experience with citadel happenings than the two he's partnered with
  • TALI has more experience with computer systems than wrex.
  • wrex simply doesn't care about computer systems. even if he's an established gambler. (also, VAs are paid by the line. i think. makes sense to cut corners if possible)

while plausible, what i wrote would be inadmissible to place on the article since it's just speculation on my part. as well as your findings as verbatim (counts as "unique dialogue" at most but why waste time transcribing them if what they say's basically the same thing). go find an all-inclusive replacement for "tech-savvy squadmate" that accurately reflects your findings without bloating with too much detail (or removing them) then all is kosher.

couldn't think of any short and concise enough. *shrugs*
