Trivia: Charles Saracino's fate in ME2 Legendary Edition
I came across this page yesterday while playing through the Legendary Edition of ME1. Today I started playing LE ME2 and just got to Omega. While on going around the shops, I heard the news report about Charles awaiting sentencing. Looks like both versions of the news reports have been restored in the Legendary edition. - this page is one of a few notable cases that requires some discussion because of legendary edition changes.
- the wiki has always treated cut content as non-canon and denoted it on trivia as such. however, if they're restored by any means other than thirdparty mods, they're canon, simple as that. drell primary codex in ME2 can attest to that.
- the note template is only for out of universe usage: walkthroughs and the like. they're -not- for use on articles written in-universe.
- while i do think people can be incredibly stupid and shortsighted, i still have faith in their reading and reasoning capabilities to kick in a case like this: guy playing OG ME2 wonders where the information in the ME2 section came from because he hasn't played the legendary edition yet. he does just a -tiny- bit more reading, and literally one section below in trivia it's explained that the content was previously cut and then restored. - Okay yeah, agreed. I reverted an edit this morning that removed a "because cut content, not canon" marker (and a reference), because no comment was left that this was a change in LE. Given that it is now canon, what it seems might be appropriate is a "Mass Effect 2" header (below the Mass Effect one, above Ascension, since LE-or-not we're talking about info in the period of ME2), with the content described. Depending on what we want to do about the "in universe" stylings, we could either have the header say "Mass Effect 2 (Legendary Edition only)" and then have a trivia note (with the reference) that the content was cut from the original Mass Effect 2. - there are some usages of Mass Effect 3: Omega headers on our articles. i think that could be precedent. - I have respect for precedent/longstanding practice, even though I would prefer if how cut content is treated was spelled out in the MoS somewhere (if it is I couldn't find it). I actually do not assume that people will always read pages thoroughly and it has nothing to do with my attitude towards humans; it's common for wiki users to look at a page solely for the information they want and then leave. I also am of the view that MELE is a unique situation that we haven't seen before. It's not a "patch" to the original games, it's ultimately an optional standalone thing, akin to a Director's Cut of a film (it's a Developer's Cut). I'm not trying to be obtuse, I understand the logic of considering restored content canon and I 99% agree as it's clearly the creators' intent, I do however think there has to be some form of notation or header calling attention to this being a change from the original games that's beyond just a Trivia note.
