[edit] What Are They?
These strange monkeys are encountered in a retrieval assignment given by Admiral Hackett if you happen to enter Eletania's system at any point during the game. The monkeys appear to be partially made out of some kind of metal, although they are organic. It seems unlikely that these are real monkeys in space suits, and it is apparent that they are self-aware. This begs the questions: what is their purpose; and who put them there? The Geth is a possibility since they have a somewhat synthetic appearance and have a strange blinking transmitter on the back of their neck, and also because the Geth know exactly where the monkey with the data pad is in the UNC: Lost Module assignment. Observation of these monkeys in-game reveals that they do little more than walk around in their small colonies. They do however have the presence of mind to run when they hear gun fire.
[edit] What Can You Do With Them?
Monkeys can be examined to check for Admiral Hackett's data. Killing a monkey in any way gives you +4 Renegade points, after that you will recieve no Renegade points for killing any more. Inside a cave on Eletania you will find the monkey who has the data Admiral Hackett needs. The monkey can be found in a room at the end of the north-eastern tunnel of this cave. This monkey can also be used to perform an infinite Paragon points glitch. For the purpose of obtaining achievements, monkeys count as kills.
