The Milky Way galaxy needs little introduction, but deserves one just the same. A barred spiral galaxy, with between two and four hundred billion stars, it is the galaxy we live in and the setting for Mass Effect, also home to all the other races (with one exception). In the game, you're allowed to explore several systems and planets as listed below in a bevy of story driven assignments and sub quests that do a good job of delivering the true scope of the Milky Way galaxy.

You're able to explore the Milky Way once you get control of the SSV Normandy at the Citadel. From there you command the ship and navigate via the Galaxy Map, located in the center of the Normandy's command deck. The map has four zoom levels: Galaxy, Cluster, System and Planetary.
