in Me2, is the squad ammo rank 4 branch of any ammo power better than the improved version, i couldn't tell.
I would say that the "improved" version of Incendiary, Armour Piercing, Shredder, and Warp Ammo are superior to the squad bonus, at least if Shepard is the one with these skills. Disrupter Ammo can go either way: the improved version allows you to decimate synthetic enemies and shields, and the squad bonus is useful for helping your squad members who lack ammo powers to do decent damage against shields and synthetics. If you have Cryo Ammo, definitely select the squad bonus; the improved version is useless, in my opinion.
