Other Notes

I would first like to welcome you all to the first ever Mass Effect Wiki Project. This project is to overhaul many articles, do a general wiki-wide cleanup, and check content.

So with more than a few comments lately, and some other comments from other places, the wiki has really shifted away from its focus of building content and more towards the social side of the wiki. I do share this view

So I've been working for the past week or so on some projects to shift the wiki away from that and back to its official focus on building content. I've taken things from other wikis and what they have done in the past, and made some changes based on our situation.

Below is a list of the projects and their descriptions. Comments will be in each section and users can sign up below. Any user wishing to take part will need to be an auto-confirmed user. This means that you need to have an email account associated with Wikia. When you sign up, you are asked to provide an email. When you completed registration, an email from Wikia was sent to that account, and then you just click the link in the email, and there you have it, you are now an auto-confirmed user.

There are fifteen projects and each has its own focus. If you would like to possibly sign up for a section, then please leave your name under the section, and general comments at the end.

Once enough users have signed up, a group leader will be chosen to oversee the individual project. The number of users will be reflective on the amount of articles the project is to cover.

Please read, sign up, and let us all make this project a huge success! Lancer1289 (talk) 03:17, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

The project will only exist in this space for a period of time and eventually it will be moved to "Mass Effect Wiki:Operation Concentrated Effort". Lancer1289 (talk) 03:19, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

General Comments[]

I like the style for this, but the actual details seem to be slight. How, exactly, would each group operate? What exactly does the leader do that members do not, and precisely how would they be chosen?

Also, there seems to be some kind of an issue with the formatting for the projects themselves.--Zxjkl (talk) 03:59, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Basically, we'd be going through our assigned articles and checking them against each other and the Manual of Style for quality and consistency, in addition to general maintenance and cleanup. I think Lancer can explain in more detail, but the goal of this project is to do as much as possible to ensure our articles are organized, clean, and current. -- Commdor (Talk) 04:34, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

readability fixed although i dunno if that's within my rights on this wiki to do so. now to comments. so this is the super sekrit project lancer's been working on. it's always good to have things like this so that casual editors can decide more easily where to focus their efforts if they feel overwhelmed by the size and scope of the wiki. may even help cut back on the chatter in the long run if everyone's interested enough and busy. maybe if this succeeds you admins may want to consider putting a link to this page (or any successor pages) in your autowelcome sigs? T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 04:43, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

When do we start doing this. Do we wait for a group leader to be elected or can we start immediately?--Legionwrex (talk) 14:13, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Multiplayer pages seem to be absent from the project. I'd be willing to help finally fill out the map pages, but I don't know what that would qualify under. --Mr. Mittens (talk) 16:39, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Seconded, I will absolutely volunteer for MP cleanup duty. Ctrl alt belief (talk) 19:59, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

I agree that the multiplayer pages need cleanup. Operation Cooperation...Project [Power] Combo...(I'm kidding with the names.) I think another project that could be added to this list is Teugene's Cleaning enemy characters pages, though there wasn't much input into how to organize/split up the lore-heavy vs. lore-light articles. Trandra (talk) 20:19, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

I would work something up. Give me a few minutes. Lancer1289 (talk) 21:01, September 26, 2012 (UTC)
It is up. Project Collective. As to the other forum, that project is really dead at this point and is a separate project entirely. That can be covered in Chronicler, but that's really about it. Lancer1289 (talk) 21:07, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Without confirmation of the project, I have edited several articles already. I hope this is not a problem. SolitaryReaper (talk) 21:21, September 26, 2012

There's no most defiantly no problem with that. This is really just a way for everyone to contribute and provide organization. Lancer1289 (talk) 21:27, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I got a question: should I just start now, or do I have to wait? TW6464 (talk) 12:45, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

The answer to that it that large scale changes should wait. There's no objection to sandboxes, but at the same time, everyone should hold off on large edits that will be affected by this project until we can get the structure in place. Making large changes beforehand, before everything is organized could lead to more problems down the road, ones we are trying to prevent by doing this project. Lancer1289 (talk) 13:11, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
okay thanks for the clarification! TW6464 (talk) 13:15, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
woopsie. i've just arrived and sorted at the oldest pictures on the wiki so i guess the damage is done T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 13:17, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to continue working on the MP Map articles. Those are some of the only stubs we have at the moment, so they should've been a priority months ago. --Mr. Mittens (talk) 15:10, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

We aren't seeing more volunteers for the operation for quite some time now. I propose we start editing and make do with what member support we have. --SolitaryReaper (talk) 7:10, October 1, 2012 (UTC)

just remembered, we should probably add unique dialogue overhaul and PC tweaks cleanup in here before doing that.

I was planning on leaving it open for a few more days and start it on Thursday.
As to UD pages, they are really quite organized, any PC tweeks pages are individaul since they are a mess anyway, and any character page cleanup is already covered. Dialogue can be mentioned in articles, so long as it doesn't become the focus of the article. Lancer1289 (talk) 17:20, October 1, 2012 (UTC)

well that probably didn't come off the way i intended - fixed comment for clarification. i'd ask though if we're supposed to transcribe the following since MoS was a little vague on these:

  • after-mission squadmember dialogue aboard the normandy (ME3)
  • character-based UD if given a situation everyone has a reaction but that consists of mostly the same line with differences only on vocal delivery and maybe personality (like on canned orders over loudspeaker and meeting the tankbred krogan on korlus, getting poisoned by forvan, biotic god, entering the mako the first time on feros, cerberus betrayal on collector ship, liara and dinosaurs, after beating the atlas on N7: Cerberus Fighter Base, one of your squad commenting on the banshee wail and tripping on something in Kallini: Ardat-Yakshi Monastery, krogan cave paintings on tuchanka, thessia's gunship pilot, squad reactions on cronos station vidlogs, and probably many more - ME3 UD sections are rife with these and as i understand it in order to qualify as UD a character should have sole ownership of the UD delivery moment and should not be easily replaceable with someone else who delivers more or less the same lines - or isn't it?)

looking at garrus' and javik's UD pages at first glance i see things that aren't UD but spontaneous and vice versa (i'll be cleaning those up if nobody does after i finish with another screencap spree) as well as those belonging to things mentioned above, which i've no idea yet how to tackle. i'm pretty sure the other UD pages deserve closer scrutiny as well now that we're supposed to be tidying up much of the wiki. T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 18:45, October 1, 2012 (UTC)

well that looked too tl;dr for my tastes, perhaps my bottomline is simply to have UD scrutiny included explicitly in project chronicler, if that's not too much to ask T̴̴͕̲̞̳̖̼̱͒͛̎͒ͫ̃ͧeͩ̈̽̈҉͓̝̰̼̦̫̤̀͠m̫̪̪̯̻͎̫̅̇̓̇͌̚p̸̙̝̓̓͌ͨ͆ͣͥ̂̕o͒̽͐̽͏̞̬̻͕͔͕͚̰͍͠͞ṙ̢̞͚͈̹̰ͨ̓ͭ̈́̌ạ̢̧̪̹̺̺̣̹̲͂͆̏ͪͨ͒ͭř̹͈͜͠y̷͍̻̜̹̼̾̽̈́e̵̹̼̟̦͚͐̈́͌͘d͉̲̣̻͉̱͗̅ḭ̷̻̆͋̆̓̔͝t̨͍̦̫̗͂̅̍̋̆ͩ͝ộ̫̟̬̳̝̲̾ͫ̒̿ͮ̑̚rͯ̎ͨͭ̄̿̽͛҉̠̫̱̠̘̘̲́ͅ7̩̻ͤͩͨ͝͡8̜̣̙͇̻ͨ͛͛̆͒̆̽̒͐͜͡ ͥ̍̉̃̇ͥ̓ͨ͏̕҉̥̹͓̗̤̠̖̤ (talk) 18:56, October 1, 2012 (UTC)
That is probably not an inaccurate statement. It was implied that the UD pages, being subpages of their respective characters, would fall into that namespace, but I guess making that explicit isn't harming anyone. Lancer1289 (talk) 19:19, October 1, 2012 (UTC)

I'm about ready to kick this off, starting with Project Councilor. But I have a few final questions to ask before I do. First, are there any current "model" race pages that I can use as a base for working on the rest?

Second, and more importantly, is there any formal guideline on the wiki as to what, exactly, should go in a Trivia section? They tend to be one of the areas most frequently needing cleanup, but aside from a few details about what can and can't be used as sources, I'm very unclear as to the specifics of what should and should not count.--Zxjkl (talk) 00:38, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

Ok I know I said today would be the start, well it's still Thursday in CST, but a lot of stuff came up today, mainly school work, so I don't have everything laid out and ready for launch. One thing after another came up over the last week and things just didn't pan out. I'm hoping that I can work quickly tomorrow morning before I have to waste 4 hours of my time driving to Wisconsin and back, to start the project, but if not, then it will be around 3:00 pm CST. I'm sorry to everyone who is waiting, but when you have a presentation, a midterm, a test, and some random club stuff comes up during the day, then things get busy. I which some people would wait, but it still appears that my calls for patience fall on deaf ears.
Once the pages are created, then this forum will be locked to editing.
As to race pages, the MoS actually has an outline for the race pages. Mass Effect Wiki:Manual of Style/Races. Lancer1289 (talk) 00:50, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

Attention Everyone. Operation Concentrated Effort is now at T-1 hour. At that time, all pages concerned with the project will go live and all teams are to commence operations and communications immediately. Driving 4 hours isn't fun. Lancer1289 (talk) 18:58, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

When you say commence "communications", what exactly do you mean? SolitaryReaper (talk) 19:10, October 5, 2012 (UTC)
You'll see. Lancer1289 (talk) 19:13, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

In Effect[]

Well this is very late, but the operation is now active. Please see the main project page, linked at the top of the page for more information. Lancer1289 (talk) 20:02, October 16, 2012 (UTC)
