Combat

From Mass Effect Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Mass Effect's open-ended combat takes place in real time. All foot-based combat uses third-person view, and you have the ability to pause the action in order to give commands to your squadmates using the Power Wheel, similar to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. You and your allies will use weapons, which are upgradeable, along with talents to fight enemies.

Use the D-pad to issue the following squad orders in the battlefield:

  • Press UP to send your squad to the location you targeted
  • Press DOWN to order them to stop moving or take cover
  • Press RIGHT to order them to attack a specific enemy
  • Press LEFT to order them to rally at your position, then follow you

During vehicle-based combat, you have the option to switch to first-person view or remain in third-person.

[edit] Combat classes

Combat classes make use a greater variety of weapons and are more lethal with them. All classes except Sentinel, have access to at least one combat talent, but three classes are deeply entwined with combat. Soldiers are focused solely on combat, while Vanguards and Infiltrators split their focus between combat and biotics and tech respectively.
