Citadel: Schells the Gambler

Citadel: Schells the Gambler is an assignment gained by an encounter as you are entering the Citadel's Flux, a bar and casino in the Wards District.

The second time you enter Flux after you become a Spectre, a cutscene plays showing a salarian, Schells, being thrown out of Flux. He explains that he is trying to perform research to perfect his "system" for predicting the outcomes of the Quasar machines. In order to do this, he has been using a device which emits a signal that tampers with the machines, increasing his odds of winning, as Schells needs more data on winning instead of losing. Not surprisingly, Doran accused him of cheating and tossed him out. He will attempt to enlist your help with collecting the data; if you refuse, he'll stay at the entrance to Flux until you agree to help him out.

Once Schells gives you the device, you can either give the device to Doran, or collect the data as requested. Either option will result in a reward of credits and experience.

  • You need 5 wins for Schells. Once you get 7 wins Doran will throw you out for cheating.
  • You can give the device to Doran even after you've used it to collect wins for Schells
  • If you give the device to Doran, he will let you play a few rounds of Quasar on the house in addition to credits and XP.
  • There are no morality points either way for turning the device over to Doran or for recording wins for Schells.

If you return to the club after this is complete, you will see Doran dancing on the club floor; you can highlight him and activate to do a little dancing of your own. You can also dance with members of your team if you highlight them and talk to them. You may have to listen to them talk a couple times before they will dance.

  • Scan the Machines
Schells gave you his scanning device. Go to Flux in the Upper Wards, and use the gambling machines at least five times. Don't get caught.
Speak to Schells outside Flux in the Upper Wards and let him know you gave his scanning device to Doran.
  • Complete
The assignment description now reads:
You decided to give Schells scanner to Doran. Schells was understandably upset, but at least he won't be cheating anymore.
The mission name changes to Citadel: Schells' Scanner Given Away.


Alternately, you can do as Schells asks. If you don't get caught (which happens after a seventh win), it looks like this:

Schells is outside Flux in the Upper Wards. Speak to him if you want to help.
  • Scan the Machines
Schells gave you his scanning device. Go to Flux in the Upper Wards and use the gambling machines at least five times. Don't get caught.
You scanned the machines five times. Return the scanner to Schells outside Flux in the Upper Wards before you get caught.
  • Complete
The assignment description now reads:
You were able to run scans on the gambling machines in Flux and gather enough data for Schells. He seemed very excited by your findings.
The mission name changes to Citadel: Schells has his Data.
