AI Hacking is a tech power available to Infiltrators and Engineers in Mass Effect 2. From rank 2 onward, AI Hacking also generates a temporary shield around the hacked target. Note that this power, like many status effect powers, will only work on enemies that have had their defenses (e.g., shields, armor) stripped away. AI Hacking was incorporated into Sabotage in Mass Effect 3.

Notes Edit

  • Hacked synthetics will typically draw fire from several enemies, particularly if those enemies are closer to the hacked synthetic than to the player/squad. Good targets are synthetics that don't use cover and attack the nearest enemy (LOKI Mechs, FENRIS Mechs, YMIR Mechs, Geth Hunters, Geth Destroyers, and Geth Primes). Geth Troopers are poor choices as allies since they will frequently seek cover close to the player or stand around and do nothing.
  • Hacked synthetics can still be targeted normally. Thus you can still shoot them or attack them with powers.
  • Hacked synthetics lose the shield they gained from AI Hacking when the hack runs out.
  • It is advisable to use this power on synthetics located in the back of the enemy army, especially on higher difficulties. That way, the hacked synthetic will be in a good firing position from the start while the enemies will have to waste time turning around to retaliate. This will also expose your enemies since they can’t shield both their front and their back from fire.
  • Unlike in Mass Effect, one point of hacking will hack any hackable enemy. It isn't necessary to purchase all points to hack heavy enemies like Geth Primes.
