Andromeda Initiative

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect:_Andromeda better give us a good reason as to why the http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Andromeda_Initiative is even a thing. According to the lore, only 1% of the http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Milky_Way has been discovered. Therefore it makes more sense to just continue searching your own galaxy instead of making a 600 year trip that has a high chance of ending in failure. All I need is a good reason why anyone would propose such a plan (and why anyone would go through with it) and I'll be content

The reasons actually quite simple, the Andromeda Initiative is launched between the events of ME2 and ME3, the whole objective of the Andromeda Initiative is to find a new home for the council races if Shepard is unsuccessful in his attempts to defeat the reapers. They chose Andromeda because of how far away from the Milky Way it is, and in hopes that if the reapers due win they will stick to the Milky Way seeing as how we have no evidence that they travel to different galaxies.

But the council never acknowledged reaper threat ? Not enough to put resources into and unite species in the same goal ?

They actually did. Not in ME1 of course. But by the end of ME2 people know about the reapers due to the events of the arrival dlc and the destruction of the Alpha relay. The thing that was in question during ME2 was if the collectors were working with the reapers.

and in ME3 Citadel DLC, you can access the information on sovereign attack in the archives, if you have a spectre status. so i guess the whole "reapers are a figment of your imagination, shepard" is only for the public.
